I saw the movie, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, the day after Nelson Mandela passed away and I’m glad I did. This film is worth your time, energy and price of admission. It’s the kind of film that won’t be around too long, so don’t wait until it’s too late. Put this on your holiday viewing list. This film provides important historical context to the story of Nelson Mandela, portraying his early fire as a young man and his infinite wisdom as the new President of South Africa. Some day our grandchildren and great grandchildren will be talking about Mandela. (Yes, he is that important.) And of course they should talk about him, because Nelson Mandela was the moral voice for the turning of our new century. This film is graced by several outstanding actors, including Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, and from beginning to end I found their performances arresting and inspiring. Take a Breath today. Take in a movie or two in the upcoming weeks. You won’t do any better than Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
